Why laughter is good for marriage

Laughter is best for marital unity. If there’s one thing that I love most about my husband, it’s his ability to make me laugh so easily. He cracks jokes that quickly send me roaring in laughter. If you’ll ask him what he likes best in me, he’ll tell you the same thing. He’ll tell you that I can make him laugh. In our marriage, we share a lot of laugher.

During the Valentine’s Day I read about Michelle Obama’s advice for couple – laugh with your partner.

President Obama and first lady Michelle Obama proved that, after 19 years of marriage tested throughout the years of the president’s political ambitions, laughing together is indeed working.

Asked why laughter is good for marriage? Here are the top 4 reasons:

  • Laughter is best for marital unity

When you laugh a lot with your partner, it gives you feeling of ease. You’re at ease that you can be you, no facade and no suppressed feelings. You’re at ease because you feel good. Having fun together develops marital bond.

  • Laughter helps you keep a positive, optimistic outlook

Did you observe that if you laugh, you feel good? And did you observe too that sometime after laughter subsides you still feel good? That’s because laughter helps you relax and recharge. It dissolves distressing emotions.

Because you can’t feel anxious, angry, or sad when you’re laughing, your stress reduces and your energy increases. You are able to think positively. No matter what differences, difficulties or trials that arise, a positive and optimistic mindset will help you deal with them.

  • Laughter helps your marriage stay in balance

After years of adjusting to each other’s behavior and attitude, working hard to establish a stable financial status, raising kids, dealing with in-laws and all that’s in the box, marriage can take its toll. But having time to laugh and have fun together will keep your relationship fresh and exciting. It adds joy to your lives.

  • Laughter is inexpensive

Since sex is the first thing to go in marriage, couples usually find their marriage boring after several years. To combat this, they design creative (if not expensive) ways  to spice up their marriage – which is good. However, the most fun and inexpensive way to spice up your marriage is simply through laughing together as often as you can.

If you haven’t been laughing a lot with your partner lately, your task now is to find ways to bring laughter to your marriage.
